Love your blog! I used Dreft with both of my kids when they were babies and I switched when they got a bit older to a free and clear one. I know it sounds crazy, but some of my friends who used Tide or whatever seemed like they were always dealing with skin irritations with their babies and I never had problems with that with either one of mine. I know a lot of people will go on about the cons of so called "overprotecting or sanatizing" for babies and say you should just expose them to everything you are normally exposed to unless you may cause them to be over sensitive, but I just think on some things it is a bit too harsh for their skin. Sorry, long answer short..buy it..it is worth it..
I washed all of the infant stuff in Dreft, but as they got a little older (8-12 months) I switched over to regular detergent. It just made me feel better to wash the baby-baby things in Dreft--don't really know that it matters.
Yes, I washed my first 3 boys in Dreft and then my 4th I switched to All Baby. I used it for about a year for all three. We rarely had issues with skin irritations that my friends who did not use it did.
I am the same... I prewashed everything Ririe wore in Dreft. I used it as laundry detergent on all of his clothes, sheets etc. until he was about 8 months. I then just stared washing his items with our stuff and just used the good old Tide. I do think it is worth it even though it is just one more thing to buy.
Also, while we are on laundry you should buy some "Baby Oxy Clean". I prefer the spray kind. (I can only find it at Babies R Us). It works wonders on blow outs and spit up. I still use it daily!!!! Just an FYI.
Definetly! It doesn't irritate their skin like other detergents because they dont add all the chemicals. My little brothers skin is super sensitive so we wash all his clothes, blankets, stuffed animals in it and its great.
I used Dreft for my girls clothes for as long as I could, mainly for the smell. It smells so good if you use it with Downy. Couple that with some Johnson's baby lotion and you have one delicous smelling baby! Mmm Mmm good!
oh, and i agree with Larson Love, Oxy Clean Baby works like magic
I loved it when she was really little, it smells good too! I Use tide now and haven't had a problem with it. But it never hurts to be cautious the first few months when there skin is so sensitive!
I agree with that hot man above me. Babies are always puking and pooping all over everything. With all the money you save you can buy a new softball bat.
I have four kids and haven't used it for any of them, and haven't had any problems. I agree for what you would pay for the Dreft go buy another cute outfit!
I am glad that you asked this question because I have always wondered the same thing... Guess it is a personal thing but I guess we are protecting the most precious little ones and $11 a box is worth it to me!
Baby detergent not worth it-if you want something gentle for baby get a natural detergent such as Seventh Generation. They are natural and the fragrance is from essential oils. They also have natural fabric softener.
Holy load of comments, Batman! Just to weigh in, I do use at least 1 bottle of Dreft when they first get home. I figure you can't be too careful ($11 for ~6 months, come on!) Also, like Suzie says, they smell so good!
Love your blog!
