I am so excited for our first Terrific Tuesdays post!
I am excited to introduce you all to Jesse from Good Girl Gone Glad.
Jesse is the mother of three children, whom she home schools. She records some of her home schooling ideas on her blog along with craft ideas, tutorials, interior design and more.
When deciding to homeschool the kids I wanted to try my best to keep school fun and playful. Rhett and Blair are both reading and Jude is close behind. So in an attempt to keep them “wanting” to read I came up with the idea to have a Book Party. It was a surprise for them. They knew some of the things I had picked up, but didn’t know exactly what we were doing.I love surprises!
Here is what we did.
I gave each child 4 new books, 4 book plates, and two strips of paper with stickers to create bookmarks.
First we decorated our bookmarks.
Then we filled out our bookplates!
Here is how we are staying on track…
Each kiddo gets a Bookworm chart. For every book they read to me, we will write it on a segment of the worm. When they get to a segment that has a star they get to pick a prize. A little motivation to keep going and finish all 17 segments. =)
Another bit of reading motivation.
A few of the details…
I always did want a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils!
{Do you remember that from the movie You’ve Got Mail}
They loved every minute of it! We have our first segments filled out today. I am sure we will be taking some library trips too!
Happy reading!
xx

Sounds like a fun party for kids.
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas! My daughter just finished kindergarten, and I've been needing some ideas to motivate her to keep up on her reading over the summer! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love your reading ideas, especially the gummy worms. Way to make reading look so fun!! I stopped by to let you know that I featured your father's day wallet on my blog today. Thanks for sharing!
