Hello! My name is Brooke and I'm visiting from The Wheeler Weekly. I’m a stay-at-home mom to two amazing and energetic little boys. In my spare time I enjoy blogging about our lives- whether I’m writing about what we did over the weekend, a new recipe we tried and loved, a fun project we discovered, or new adventures in parenting.
When I heard about the idea of Terrific Tuesdays I couldn't wait to participate. All of you with kids out there know that it can be very easy to get caught up in your neverending to-do lists and therefore good quality family time can sometimes unintentionally get put on the back burner. So, the idea of dropping everything one day of the week and just doing something fun with your kids sounded like a great idea!
Being from Nebraska, we are currently in the thick of winter. Although we have been having a rather mild winter (for Nebraska standards), the days in which I’ve been able to get my kids out for fresh air have been few and far between. Therefore, my brain has had to work over-time to try and think of ways to occupy their days.
A few weeks ago I was on Pinterest and saw this idea for homemade stamps made out of bottle tops and foam stickers. My kids absolutely love doing crafts and the concept seemed so simple that I couldn’t wait to try it.
All you need to do is save the bottle caps from your drinks (milk, orange juice, sports drinks, bottled water, etc). My kids gravitated towards the larger tops. I also found that the selection of large foam stickers was far greater than their smaller counterparts. In summary, find large tops.
Then go to your local Wal-Mart, Target, Dollar Tree or any craft supply store and purchase foam shape stickers. I had some on hand but found more at my local Dollar Tree store. You can get an 80 piece package for just $1.
Now comes the hard part. Stick your foam stickers to the tops of your bottle caps and you have a homemade stamp! Pretty tricky, huh?
Press your stamps in ink or paint and stamp away. Towards the end my kids realized it was equally fun to just stick their fingers in the ink pad and make fingerprints. So if you're looking for some really cheap fun just get an ink pad and some paper! When done you can wipe the stamps clean with a wet paper towel and store in a Ziploc bag for another day.
It’s a perfect project to ward away boredom! Have a terrific Tuesday!
